Trevor Benton, OBE, was a mortal millionaire and art collector who had often donated to charity, and he hired Nick Wolfe to transport a 10 million dollar Antonio Ravelli original, Nude with Cabinet, to a museum to which he was donating for the tax write off and free publicity. When it was stolen shortly after delivery, it transpired that Amanda's long time rival Jade had been hired by Sir Trevor to remove the painting from the museum.
When Amanda and Nick tracked Jade down and returned the painting to the museum, Amanda spotted it as a fake. Research proved that Sir Trevor was fighting a hostile takeover, his stocks were plummeting, and he'd lost much in a divorce. He stood at 300 million in assets and 450 million in debt. Nick speculated that he kept the original painting in order to sell it on the black market and donated a forgery to the museum.
Eventually, Amanda, Nick, and Jade cooperated and returned the original, the forgery and Sir Trevor all to the museum and tripped the alarm. The newspapers reported the following day, that he had been caught breaking into the Museum in an attempt to replace the original with the forgery.
