The Guardian was born Kind-Kron in c.12,950 B.C. He was an ancient Immortal of 14,962 years, who was once on a search for the mysterious source of Immortality circa 7988 B.C. He and the others didn't succeed, and after beheading the previous Guardian he was forced to protect The Source forever.

Duncan MacLeod and the Future[]

In a possible future where parts of the world had fallen into chaos a new group of Immortals started to search for The Source. At some point after the year A.D. 2012, The Guardian was awoken due to the planetary alignment beginning. He tracked down and beheaded Zai Jie, who had discovered its location. He wore a protective metal collar which prevented decapitation which disappeared after he took Zai's Quickening. He then fought with Duncan MacLeod. However, the fight was broken off by Joe Dawson, who shot the Highlander and dragged him into his vehicle and escaped.

He then began to hunt down MacLeod and the other Immortals during their quest for The Source. When confronted by MacLeod he threw his katana sword directly into the Guardians neck. Unfazed by his injury he promptly pulled it out of his neck, snapped Duncan's dragonhead katana in half and used it to kill Joe Dawson before running off laughing at supernatural speed.

Later, he killed Reggie Weller using his using his extreme speed and strength, and also decapitated Cardinal Giovanni. As they had lost their immortality due to their proximity to the Source, however, the Guardian did not receive Giovanni's quickening and it was lost.

In the end, he was defeated by MacLeod during their final fight at the threshold-nexus of The Source. Buried up to his shoulders in sand and unable to escape he taunted MacLeod with the deaths of Joe Dawson and Reggie Weller. The Highlander refused to behead him and the Guardian disappeared into a bright light and was destroyed screaming that he was "Cursed Forever."

MacLeod, as a result, earned mortality for his pure heart and as a final reward joined his wife Anna in the Source.

Trivia[]

  • The Guardian's motivations are only loosely hinted at in the film's U.S. release cut. An earlier cut released in Russia and several Asian countries makes his motivations clearer, when he rants at Duncan after being defeated.
  • The U.S. cut also greatly tones down the Guardian's behavior; in particular, the earlier cut gave him a habit of impersonating his victims in various silly voices before attacking them, which in the U.S. cut is reduced to him simply impersonating Duncan's accent before they fight for the first time.
  • Upon the release The Source, it was condemned as the "worst Highlander property of all time," and declared by not just audiences, but the TV producers and actors as well as not being part of the continuity that constituted Duncan MacLeod's adventures.
    • Because of that, the Guardian is not considered canon anymore.
