During World War I, Sean Burns was a psychiatrist at an army hospital in France; there, he helped soldiers with shell shock. When a patient at the hospital was about to stab another person; Duncan MacLeod, a soldier and medic, tried to help the man. Burns arrived and helped calm the man down.
