A corporate lawyer, Robert Waverly was both morally corrupt and deeply untrustworthy.

In 1995, upon leaving his mistress, Lisa Crane's apartment, Waverly happened to witness a challenge between immortals; Duncan MacLeod's defeat of Peter Matlin, and he videotaped the beheading and Quickening. He stored the tape in the safe in his home, and later used it to try and blackmail MacLeod into killing his wealthy wife, Barbara for him. When MacLeod seemed hesitant, he offered an exchange, he would kill the man MacLeod seemed to be having trouble with; Lyman Kurlow, and MacLeod would kill his wife, leaving neither man with an obvious motive.

An inept criminal at best, Robert concluded his life of crime as a victim of Lyman Kurlow, who killed Robert when the man shot him, and left him for dead, never realizing who he was dealing with, or that he was in way over his head.
