Synopsis[]

Living in the spotlight is generally a bad choice for an Immortal, but Carl Robinson followed his dreams. He was enjoying his successful baseball career and had just been invited into the realm of politics when he was found and challenged by Myron Corman. Corman was a drifter who suffered his first death in a shootout during the American Old West. His lifestyle did not change with the times; he moved from town to town, city to city, stealing what he needed and challenged the first immortal he found there, then moved on.

Now it was Carl Robinson he found and challenged on the roof of the baseball stadium during practice. Robinson met him there and proved too much for Corman to handle. Unfortunately, there were witnesses to the end result of the dual; Corman's decapitated body fell from the rooftop and Robinson was seen by witnesses on the rooftop with sword in hand. Robinson fled the scene and summoned Duncan MacLeod for help.

Meanwhile, local law enforcement called in the FBI, who was under the belief that the string of decapitations was the work of a serial killer. The FBI agent called in to investigate was Matthew McCormick. McCormick is also an Immortal who, in the 1800's, was Robinson's teacher. There was now, however, bad blood between them.

To further complicate the issues at hand, Trey Franks, Robinson's mortal batting coach, tries to save Robinson in his own way -- he goes to the police and confesses to Corman's murder.

Duncan MacLeod finds McCormick to be a basically good person with reason to be angry with Robinson. MacLeod struggles to make peace between the two men, free Trey Frank, and to help Robinson find a new life.
