A Highlander of the Highlands of Planalto, Brasileiro, Brazil, he was the champion of his tribe. Always the gatherer, always the strongest. He died his first death fighting a rival tribe that had became drafted into the Portuguese invaders seeking to colonize the country. His immortality was activated by the same invaders -- led by one Andrus Keradoc -- he would spend the remaining centuries striking down the evil immortals of The Game he would find in his travels, yet seeking out and hunting Keradoc for vengeance.
He was originally taught by Brian Cullen, a troubled immortal who was once considered to be the best swordsmen in Europe. What Malej learned from Brian was that it was best to be your own man and not live in the shadow of how others perceive you. When the two parted ways on friendly enough terms, Malej set his sights on his vengeance and Brian set his sights on his continuing avoidance of the specter of his own fame.
In the present day, Malej does his best to enjoy his life, largely with his new girlfriend, Justina Castillo. He is also close friends with the Immortal Willem Caelius and his girlfriend, police officer Sylvia Dubakova. His vehicle of choice is a motorcycle. He practives (and teaches) Capoeira. He has taken so many "evil" Quickenings that he fears he is on the percipice of a Dark Quickening.
