Appearing in Highlander: The American Dream John Hooke was a malicious Immortal with almost no care for the rules of the game. He is introduced as a General, 10 years after The Battle of Gettysburg. Calling on his men to track down the wounded Connor MacLeod, he soon finds MacLeod taking refuge at a nearby monastery. Irritated by MacLeod's escape, Hooke begins to challenge Connor on holy ground. Connor was weak and thus didn't put up much of a fight, though before Hooke could take his head, Osta Vazilek, an Immortal Monk in the monastery, intervened, stating; "Not on holy ground, never on holy ground. Even the basest of us knows that much." This proved to work, and Hooke fled, taunting the two before he disappeared.

John Hooke, a decade after The Battle of Gettysburg.
The next evening, Hooke reappears, now with his small army of men, and the flames of a local village, roaring behind him. Revolver in hand, pointed at a kneeling villager beside him, he threatens the two Immortals, shouting, "Come out, rats! Come out from your hole. If you don't, I must find some other way to pass the time!" before shooting and killing the villager.
The two oblige, and Vazilek and Hooke duel, whilst Hooke's men are ordered to take down MacLeod with their bayonets. They succeed, but Connor manages to shoot Hooke before he took Vazilek’s head. Wounded, he fled once again.
Vazilek was left irritated at MacLeod, as he broke the rules interfering with the duel. Connor replied, "He started it, attacking me on holy ground. And I owed you for stopping him then."
In the 20th Century, Hooke was a serial killer, his mode of operating being to stab the victim to death, and then proceed to remove one of their eyes, because Hooke had lost his right eye when Connor MacLeod shot and wounded him all those years ago. After discovering this, Vazilek and MacLeod tracked down Hookes and broke into his apartment. When Hooke fled, the duo followed. MacLeod caught up to Hooke on a bridge, and the two fought once more. Since Hooke wasn’t expecting them, he was only armed with a machete, which Connor soon broke, leaving Hooke vulnerable. When Hooke jumped off the bridge into the water below, so did MacLeod, though he failed to catch his opponent.
Soon, Vazilek received a railroad ticket from Hooke, inviting a meet in New Jersey. Vazilek wasn’t confident he could win, though he took a pragmatic approach to the situation, saying; “There is no declining what is upon us now, Highlander.”
In the meantime, Hooke managed to contact The Kurgan, and offered him a proposition; “Now it happens there’s a monk who always seems to have a friend in tow when I run into him. So what if I said I’ve got a pretty good idea where you’ll find Connor MacLeod sometime in the next couple of nights?” The Kurgan accepted the offer.
Worried for his friend, MacLeod chose to arrive in New Jersey before Vazilek, and seek out Hooke to fight him instead. John Hooke lost his head and quickening to Connor MacLeod. When Vazilek followed to New Jersey for the meet, he was ambushed by The Kurgan, who was expecting Connor MacLeod. Nonetheless, the two fought and Osta Vazilek lost his head.
