Ian Campbell was once a man of great violence, born in a warlike clan and educated under the wing of the assassin Jean-Irènèe Castel de Saint-Martin a.k.a. Rene Castel soon after his introduction to Immortality. He was a formidable warrior. But after three centuries spent working as an assassin alongside his mentor, Campbell had a change of heart and betrayed his oldest friend. He spent several years trying to channel his violent tendencies in positive ways, first by taking on a student of his own and later on pursuing fugitives and criminals in the Post-Civil War American West. But he soon tired of all the violence and decide to seek out a more peaceful path.
For the last hundred years, Campbell has been an active and dedicated patron of arts, opening galleries and theatres across the United States under a variety of aliases. While he does not shy from a challenge, since his turn from violence, has become a reluctant participant of The Game and faces other Immortals very rarely. He has had two marriages, the first from his life as a mortal, and the last ending tragically in 1938 when his wife Katheryn was killed by Kevin Donagan in the aftermath of a bank heist.
