Horvan Kant was an Immortal, who was described as a remorseless career criminal and sociopath.

Biography[]

Born in Königsberg, East Prussia in 1798, Kant was hung in 1831 for killing the mayor's brother-in-law. He reawakened as an Immortal and, later met Immortal, Friedrich Mandelbaum who taught him about what he was and how to live.

Kant was a sociopath who killed not just for the Game, but often just for the thrill of it. Later in his life, he moved to the United States and continued his life of crime, living under the name of Harry Kant.

In 1924, Kant met new Immortal Kevin Donagan, who had experienced his first death. They spent the next three years on a crime spree across the American South, until an argument over loot led Kant to challenge and defeat Donagan, who only managed to keep his head due to police intervention.

Afterward Kant became a very successful Immortal and, in the 1990s, according to the Watchers data, he had killed ten Immortals from 1990 to 1995.

Kant confronts Coltec

In 1996, Kant was robbing a Chinese restaurant in Steveston when he sensed the presence of another Immortal; Coltec. Kant advised Coltec not to interfere, but Coltec challenged him. Kant and Coltec went outside the restaurant and dueled. Kant was defeated, losing his head, which released a Dark Quickening that was absorbed by Coltec.

Coltec took Kant`s jacket and hand gun, went back in the restaurant, took the money, and shot the surprised owner. Kant was the first Immortal Coltec killed after Bryce Korland, whom Coltec killed in 1958.

Fighting Style[]

While not being seen fighting on screen, it can be assumed that Kant used a sword that originated from Prussia. He was seen using a Desert Eagle.

Trivia[]

  • The now defunct Official Highlander Message Board had offered insight into Kant's Quickenings from his rebirth to his death in 1996 found under Natural Born Killer: The Chronicle of Horvan Kant.  Among the Immortals Kant killed were James Guidry and Arcadie Adam.
  • Kant is one of the few evil Immortals to never meet Duncan MacLeod, despite his legacy of horrific crimes and murders across the centuries being enough for Duncan to go after him if he got the chance. He's so evil that upon meeting him, a headhunting retired Coltec cannot allow him to walk free, even knowing the potential consequences to his own soul.
  • Despite his brief appearance, Kant can be considered the main antagonist of the Dark Quickening arc because the release of his Quickening triggered the plot.
    • His actions also had a bigger impact on future events. His chance encounter with Coltec led to the Dark Quickening, which led to Coltec's death at MacLeod's hands. While under the influence of the Dark Quickening, Duncan killed Sean Burns and came close to doing the same to Richie Ryan. Burns' death led to Steven Keane renewing his promise of revenge against Duncan. Richie's fear and disillusionment led to him going head hunting, which itself directly caused or led to the deaths of Grant Makim, Alec Hill, Gerard Kragen, Carter Wellan and Haresh Clay.
