Caiolin MacLeod was a mortal and the mother of Connor MacLeod.
Biography[]
Caiolin, along with her husband, raised Connor with love and care. Even after her husband's death, Caiolin remained supportive and loyal to her son.
In 1536, Connor was killed is a war against Clan Fraser, but revived as an Immortal. The towns people believed his recovery was the work of the devil and threatened to burn him at the stake. Angus, however, decided that Connor be banished. But the towns people's bigotry fell on Caiolin, believing she gave birth to a demon.
Death[]
In 1555, a plague hit the Clan MacLeod, killing many of their animals and likely Angus, Dougal and Kate. The village priest, Father Rainey and his adopted son, Jacob Kell, took over the clan as their own and had Caiolin imprisoned.
Knowing this, Connor immediately rode for his old home to bring his mother to Glencoe, but was caught and imprisoned as well.
Caiolin was tied to a cross and when Kell gave her the option, she refused to renounce her son, deciding she would have to find another god if Kell's would persecute her into the next world. As a result, Connor was forced to watch her death.
In a rage, Connor broke free from his cell, attacked the villagers that got in his way, and was able to pull Caiolin from the flames, but it was too late, and she died in his arms.
Rainey grabbed Connor's shoulder, in an attempt to comfort him and realising all too late that Connor was not the work of the devil but was in fact human, instantly regretting his decision. However, in a fit of grief and anger, Connor gutted the priest with his sword, avenging his mother upon Kell. Kell then attacked Connor next, but only succeeded in impaling himself on Connor's blade. Connor collected his mother's body and left Kell and Rainey for dead.
Legacy[]
After Connor left, Kell revived as an Immortal, and desired to avenge Rainey. Over the years, he killed Connor's loved ones until Connor sacrificed himself to Duncan MacLeod so his kinsman could defeat Kell. In the end, Duncan succeeded and Caiolin, along with Connor, was avenged once and for all.
Trivia[]
- Actress June Watson was 65 when playing Caiolin, so one might assume Caiolin died in her mid-sixties. Since Connor was 18 when he died and 35 when he returned for his mother, Caiolin could be in her early thirties when she gave birth to Connor.
