Born the natural son ofPhilippe D'Estaing after he had adopted the foundling, Morgan D'Estaing in the belief he could have no natural heirs. Morgan had been led to believe he was his father's heir, but when the boys were both young men, their father made an announcement to the family about who would control the estate. He told Morgan that it would be his younger brother, Bernard, who would inherit since he was of D'Estaing blood.

Morgan was furious, believing that he should be the heir since he was the oldest. His father told him he would get a monthly allowance, but Morgan decided to remove the competition and went to his brother's bedroom that night, he watched his brother sleep and then apologized, "I'm Sorry. Sleep little brother, sleep." He then tried to smother Bernard with a pillow.

Philippe was walking by the room, and heard a muffled scream, he went in to the room and saw Morgan trying to kill his brother. Philippe fatally stabbed Morgan to stop him.

Three years passed. Morgan, now revived as an Immortal, and his mentor, Xavier St Cloud arrived at the Chateau D'Estaing. His former family were stunned to see Morgan return, holding a knife to Bernard's throat. Morgan wanted to kill Bernard and Phillipe immediately, but Xavier instructed Morgan on patience.

Xavier introduced himself, asking Philippe where the remaining money and jewelry were, threatening torture for his family if he did not tell. Bernard urged his father to surrender the money, who agreed if his family's safety was assured. Xavier suggested they have a drink of wine together to seal the deal.

Morgan and Xavier left and Morgan was angry that they had not killed the family, by Xavier reminded Morgan of patience. Morgan realized that Xavier poisoned their wine.

Bernard and the family were found dead by incoming British troops.
