Highlander Remake Story Ideas

Wonder if Highlander will ever be rebooted for both movie & TV series.

If they reboot Duncan MacLeod's story later, here's how I picture it - Star Wars & Devilman style.

- A young mortal taken in by MacLeod

- Later becomes an immortal and someone Duncan loves dies.

- A few women the young immortal fell in love with are lost to him. One running from the law, one who he knew since childhood was forced to throw her out of his life, when realizing he couldn't protect her and her child.

- This causes him to waver from the pressures of being in The Game. A mysterious immortal offers him to be taken under his wing. He offers to help him with a woman who'll he'll have for the rest of his life and a child who he can pass on his legacy to him.

- This immortal however is evil and dangerous as the devil himself. He is one of the Four Horsemen, and he offers him a place as one of the newer Horsemen.

- Their goal is to end The Gathering, so that they be free to rule the world as they please. During some event, they successfully expose their race to the world causing panic and crisis. Prejudice and resentment, etc.

- Immortals are being hunted down and Duncan tries to stop his young apprentice from the madness he unleashed.

- Duncan wants to save him, but the young Immortal whose been filled with hatred from all the experience, he'd rather see them all dead and be the only one standing. But an accident causes him to fall and be burned alive.

- The evil Horseman saves him and restores him.

- The woman the young immortal fell in love with had a child. She gave birth to it before she died. It happened when she tries to beg him to stop the evil he unknowingly unleashed, but wouldn't listen as he feels paranoid that she betrayed him for MacLeod.

Just going by Star Wars' Anakin story

- Duncan sends the child to an orphanage where he can be adopted into a happy family and that he'd watch over him.

- The young child grows up but suddenly becomes immortal and Duncan trains him but wouldn't tell him of his parents' deaths until later.

- The young child's mission is not only to save his father but also end the war between mortals and immortals.

Not a big fan of a reboot in the first place, especially considering what a hot mess every movie after the original turned out to be.

I think Highlander must be a mix between a (sad) love story and an action movie. Skipping the love part and concentrating on action won't do. Queen's original question "Who wants to live forever, when love must die?" needs to hang over the movie. I don't think we need everything explained in the movie (like the quickening). It's probably better to leave many of the questions unanswered since answering them will just cause silly answers. "It's a kind of magic" is a fully acceptable answer to the questions of why there are immortals and what is the quickening/the price. I also think it's important to keep things like Scottish scenery, New York, Japanese swords in the movie.

I am kinda anti 'Re's' (reboots, remakes, relaunches etc), but i'd love a new immortal show that could be set in the highlander universe. just like highlander: the raven lacked any macleod, a new immortal could be found by any other highlander, heck even a female "highlander" as a mentor. and maybe be a novice immortal like richie could have been.

Did I forget to mention that my young immortal was corrupted by the Dark Quickening that made him go against MacLeod and his friends and plans to expose and be rid of them all in order to claim the prize and be the only one?

Of course, his beloved he took from her deceased abusive husband, tried to stop him from killing MacLeod but died. Her child still remains and was left in adopted or foster care, until the day he faces him.

Your idea sounds soooooooo promising. do you write fanfic or watt pad?? i've never visited watt pad's site. and the last fanfic i've read was for silk stalkings, decades ago, but....

I've been working on an idea for the potential reboot. It's taken quite some time to iron out a lot of the logistics in order for the narrative to work solidly. My approach was initially born out of an unresolved plot-hole from the original movie and I set out to the follow the thing from the point of view of new audiences wanting to see something which, while retaining the essence and style of the first movie and the universe it created, was also something new that didn't slavishly follow the familiar story elements. Additionally, I wanted to create an experience for die-hard fans of the 1986 movie (like myself) whereby, upon reaching a recognizable fork in the Highlander road, the new story would take the path least-travelled. I am looking to turn expectations around at every opportunity, bringing an increased melancholy to the important central question "Who Wants To Live Forever?"

I think I may have come up with an idea that pays tribute to the 1986 movie but features a completely new set of character motivations, plot outcomes and overall mythology. The main conceit of my story would also lend itself to logical continuations without the need for retconning the plot at the beginning of each subsequent entry.

Now...if only I could get a hold of Chad Stahelski and 87Eleven Entertainment before the cameras start rolling...
